OFFICIAL: Chelsea Signs Cole Palmer From Man City.

Chelsea have officially announced the signing of Cole Palmer from Manchester City.

The England Under-21 international Cole Palmer signs a seven-year contract with the Blues with an option for a further year after sealing a permanent move from City. 

It’s understood that Chelsea will pay an initial £40million for the 21-year-old academy graduate with an additional £2.5m in possible add-ons.

A deal was struck on Wednesday for a player City had been keen to keep but were ultimately persuaded to part with by the size of Chelsea’s bid.

This takes Chelsea's transfer spending since last summer to the region of £1billion since the club was acquired by Todd Boehly’s Clearlake Capital consortium.

‘I’m excited to get started and it feels great to sign,’ said Palmer. 

‘I’ve joined Chelsea because the project here sounds good and because of the platform I will have to try to showcase my talents. It is a young and hungry squad and, hopefully, we can do something special here.’

Palmer joined Man City’s academy at Under-8 level and moved through the youth ranks at the club. He captained City’s Under-18s during the 2019/20 season and helped the side win the FA Youth Cup, scoring in the final against Chelsea. 

Palmer played 14 times in the Premier League last season as Pep Guardiola’s side won a third consecutive title, and was an unused substitute during their Champions League final victory over Inter Milan in Istanbul.

Palmer began this season by scoring a spectacular goal at Wembley in the team’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal in the Community Shield, a match they went on to lose via penalties.

He was also City’s scorer in the Super Cup game with Sevilla in Athens last month which ended in a victorious penalty shoot-out.

Palmer days at the club were numbered when the historic treble winners signed Jeremy Doku from Rennes.

He will join up with Mauricio Pochettino’s squad ahead of our Premier League fixture with Nottingham Forest. 

Palmer’s best position is as a right winger or as a No 10, and will, of course, back himself to make his mark at Stamford Bridge, but it is a brave move for a player who has played 41 times for City, scoring six goals, since his debut in 2020.
