Nigeria's D'Tigress Secures Qualifying Ticket to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo
The Nigeria’s senior women’s national basketball team, D’Tigress, on Saturday secured a ticket to the 2020 Olympics Games set to be held in Tokyo.
D'Tigress secured qualification with a game to spare, despite losing thier second group game 64-70 to host-Serbia , at the on going FIBA Olympic games qualifiers tournament.
Nigerian team having celebrated a much needed victory last Thursday against fellow African counterparts Mozambique in a game which ended 85-51 in favour of the D'Tigress, saw their hopes of qualifying ahead of Nigeria being jeopardized.
Mozambique suffered another 49-124 humiliating defeat in their second group game against current world champions, USA.
Sixth consecutive Olympic gold medalist, USA currently sits top of the group, with 212/118 points, Serbia in second with 139/152 points, Nigeria in third with 149/121 points and Mozambique sits in bottom with 100/209 points after two round of games each.

CloudNine Sports understands that, this will be the first time in history both the Nigerian men and women basketball teams will be qualifying for the same Olympic games, set to begin Friday 24th July to Sunday 9th August in Tokyo.
The first time D'Tigers qualified for the Olympics was in 2012 at London, while the last time D'Tigress qualified was at Athens in 2004 ending a 16-years wait.
The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) are currently the only federation in Nigeria to have 2 teams (men and women) going to Olympics tournament.
