Edinson Cavani And Thaigo Silva Set To Depart PSG This Summer As Free Agents.

Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that defender Thiago Silva and striker Edinson Cavani will depart the club as free agents this summer.



The French club's director of football Leonardo confirmed that the pair are both out of contract at the end of June if not for the coronavirus pandemic.

Edinson Cavani and Thaigo Silva will now remain with the club until the season is fully completed with the Champions League campaign, Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue all still to be resolved.

PSG are through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League following their 3-2 aggregate victory over Germain side Borussia Dortmund in the round of 16.

During a recent interview with official Paris Sunday Journal account "Le Journal du Dimanche", Leonardo says;
"Yes, we are about to arrive to the end of their story here but the idea is to have them available through the end of August"

"It was a very difficult decision to make; these are players who have marked the history of the club".

“Their stories were so beautiful. But yes, we are coming to the end.

"We had to make a logical decision, economically speaking and with regard to the generation that is coming through.

“Maybe we are wrong, I do not know, there is never a perfect moment. Now the Champions League is still in sight and the idea is to continue competing with them until the end of August. How it can be done is not yet clear [legally].”

Edinson Cavani and club captain Thiago Silva, have made more than 600 combined appearances for PSG in all competitions.

The 35-year-old Brazilian centre-back Thiago Silva would end his 8-years stay at the club scoring 19 times in 310 appearances and winning 21 trophies since joining from AC Milan in 2012.

He remains a key part of the PSG starting XI under Thomas Tuchel and has made 25 appearances in all competitions in the 2019-20 season.

While Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani who have been linked with several transfer speculations, is currently PSG all-time leading goal scorer ahead of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The 33-year-old, has scored an astonishing 200 goals in 300 games for PSG, and winning 19 trophies with the team since joining from Napoli in 2013.
