OFFICIAL:Gernot Rohr SACKED As Super Eagles Manager, Austin Eguavoen Appointed On Interim Basis.

The Nigeria Football Federation have just fired Gernot Rohr as manager of the Super Eagles with immediate effect.


The Franco-German tactician Rohr is the longest-serving manager of the Nigerian senior national team, having spent 64-months on the job following his appointment in August 2016 as he replaced Nigerian great Sunday Oliseh.


Rohr was in charge of 54 matches with the Super Eagles (28 wins, 13 losses, and 13 draws). He took the three-time African champions to the 2018 World Cup in Russia where Nigeria failed to qualify from the Group stages, and also took the team to the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt where he finished in third place. 


Former player and current U23 manager Mr Augustine Eguavoen ha been appointed as  the interim manager with the Africa Cup Of Nations set to begin in 28 days.

Following a virtual meeting of the NFF Executive Committee on Sunday, Eguavoen will be assisted by will be assisted by Salisu Yusuf (chief coach), Paul Aigbogun (assistant coach), Joseph Yobo (assistant coach); Terry Eguaoje (assistant coach) and Aloysius Agu (goalkeeper trainer).

Former Super Eagles captain Austine 'Jay Jay' Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu and Garbal Lawal have also been appointed to provide technical support to the team.


General Secretary of the NFF, Dr Mohammed Sanusi said: “The relationship between the Nigeria Football Federation and Mr Rohr has come to an end. We thank him for his services to the Super Eagles and Nigeria.

“We also want to thank the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports for their collaboration and guidance all through.”


Eguavoen '56' had previously coached the Super Eagles from 2005-2007 and finished in third place at the 2006 AFCON in Egypt. 

He was part of the Nigeria national team squad that qualified for the country's first ever World Cup in 1994, and won the African Nations Cup in the same year in Tunisia.
