"I Would Make Chelsea FC A World Class Club" — Chelsea Bidder Jim Ratcliffe Claims

Last minute bid at Stamford Bridge sees Britain's richest man Sir Jim Ratcliffe makes over £4 Billion offer to buy Chelsea.

The 69-year-old INEOS owner appears to have lost the race to takeover from Roman Abramovich having placed a bid for the club on Friday, the same day as Raine Group, announced Todd Boehly-led group if investors as their chosen preferred bidder, subject to approval from both the Premier League and the United Kingdom government.

Raine Group an American merchant bank was appointed by outgoing owner Roman Abramovich to be in charge of sale, had narrowed down the contenders to three consortiums: one headed by Los Angeles Dodgers part-owner Todd Boehly, another led by British businessman Sir Martin Broughton and a third headed by Celtics co-owner Pagliuca.

Chelsea season ticket holder, announced his bid to take over the club, having met with Blues chairman Bruce Buck the day before, he also assured that he would invest over £1.75bn over the next ten years to improve Chelsea and make their home stadium, Stamford Bridge a world class stadium.

A statement from Ineos read: "Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made a formal bid to buy Chelsea FC."

"1.75 billion to invest in Chelsea FC over the next ten years and the rest to take care of victims who may have suffered.

"This is a bid made by a British man to support a British club. Our believe is that the club is bigger than the owners who are merely custodians of a well known tradition. With responsibility to the fans and community at a large extent.

"That is one of the reasons why we are confident in investing £1.75bn over the course of a decade that will be of great benefit to the club. We would invest in our stadium, Stamford Bridge to make it a world class stadium. Befitting a great club like Chelsea FC.

"This will be very real and ongoing so that we would not in any circumstances leave Chelsea and risk losing support to loyal fans.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is mentioned among top billionaires that made an attempt to purchase the West London club back in 2019 but, at the time, he deemed Abramovich's £2.5 billion asking price as too much.
