Sergio Aguero Names Favorite Player To Win The Ballon d'Or, And Believes Madrid Will Defeat Liverpool In UCL Final.

Manchester City's legend, Sergio Aguero, has named Real Madrid’s striker Karim Benzema as the player who deserves to win the 2022 Ballon d’Or award.

Aguero believes Benzema deserves to win the Ballon d’Or irrespective of the outcome of his side’s Champions League final against Liverpool on May 28 in Paris.

Benzema is one of the front-runners to win the Ballon d’ Or this year, thanks to his incredible performances and statistics for Los Blancos this season.

The France international is expected to battle Liverpool duo, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, alongside Bayern Munich's star Robert Lewandowski for the crown.

Benzema helped Carlo Ancelotti’s side to win the La Liga title, ending the season as the league’s top goalscorer with 27 goals and the second-highest assist provider with 12 assists.

The striker's Champions League performances this season has stunned opponents, fans, and pundits alike. He scored an incredible back-to-back hattricks which includes a 17-minute hat-trick in the second leg of the round of 16 against PSG to help his side claim a 3-2 aggregate victory.

Benzema also scored a hat-trick in the first leg of the quarter-finals against Chelsea, before scoring the winning goal in the return-leg of the tie. He scored two penalties against Manchester City in the semi-finals.

When asked if Benzema deserved to win the Ballon d’Or, Aguero told Stake.com in an interview that the striker’s performances this season have warranted his claim to the trophy.

“For his performance this season, yes. Beyond whatever happens in the final, Benzema deserves to win the Ballon d’Or.”

He also claims that Real Madrid will beat Liverpool in the final;

"Let's see... I think Madrid have more experience overall as a club, but Liverpool have shown up well in the Champions League for the past few years.

"It will be close, but I think Madrid will be more confident, having played the finals before and turning around tough games in the past.

"That's the edge I can point towards.

"I think Liverpool will kick off with their usual intensity.

"They'll aim to score from the get-go. Their offence is top-notch, and their wingmen can carry the ball forwards and assist excellently.

"Madrid will be on the counter, making the most of Vinicius' speed and Benzema's form. Modric will be one to watch out for, as he always plays a pivotal role in these instances."
