Bruno Fernandes Given New Shirt Number At Manchester United.

Manchester United midfielder, Bruno Fernandes, has been given a new squad number ahead of next season.

The Portuguese midfield maestro now has his dream jersey number after a couple of years, as he would now wear the no.8 shirt at Man United vacated by his close friend Juan Mata.

Mata left Man United this summer following the conclusion of the 2021/22 season, which made the no: 8 shirt available.

Having previously worn the no: 18 shirt, Fernandes can now finally match his no.8 tattoo with the number on his new shirt starting from next season.

Man United disclosed this recent changes in a post via its website on Thursday.

“Bruno Fernandes switches from no.18 ahead of the 2022/23 campaign and will wear his new jersey during Tour 2022.”

“He had previously joked last season with Mata that the Spaniard’s new deal had delayed him getting hold of his favourite number, which prompted Juan to issue a cheerful response.”

“However, Bruno suggested he has always wanted to take on no.8, which he has had with Udinese, Sporting and the national team when Mata left.”

Fernandes who joined the Red Devils from Sporting CP in 2020, signed a brand new long-term contract last season, and now he's got his preferred number to go with it.

The 27 year old has the number eight tattoo on his arm and was born on that day in 1994. He wore the number at Udinese earlier in his career, before growing attached to it at Sporting Lisbon. And now he can finally wear it for United.

Fernandes would be looking to bounce back with the rest of his teammates after an underwhelming display last season.

The signing of Christian Eriksen and the return of Donny Van de Beek would give him stern competition in the midfield.

United are set to begin a fresh start under Erik ten Hag, as they embark on their pre-season tour to Thailand, Australia and Norway on Friday morning and, for at least the first part of that journey, Cristiano Ronaldo will be missing. He has yet to report for pre-season owing to a family issue.

Man United also confirmed that new summer signing Tyrell Malacia will wear the number 12 shirt next season.

Malacia arrived at Old Trafford in an initial €15million switch from Eredivisie side Feyenoord and, as things stand, he remains the only official addition made so far this summer.
