Christian Eriksen Set To Join Man United On A Free Transfer.

Christian Eriksen has agreed a deal in principle to join Manchester United on a free transfer from Brentford.

The Bees were willing to make Eriksen the club's highest paid player, but the pressure from United proved too much.

Eriksen was pondering over offers from Man Utd and Brentford, where he spent the second half of last season, but has decided to link up with Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

His former club Tottenham Hotspur, who he played for between 2013 and 2020, did have interest in re-signing him but have instead focused on other targets.

The 30-year-old worked with Ten Hag when he trained with Ajax as part of his return to football following his cardiac arrest while playing for Denmark at Euro 2020.

A three-year contract until June 2025 is being prepared for the Eriksen, who is still to have his medical at Old Trafford.

He could be United and new manager Erik ten Hag's second signing of the summer transfer window, with Feyenoord defender Tyrell Malacia undergoing a medical at Carrington today.

The news of an agreement comes following a weekend in which Cristiano Ronaldo made it clear he wants to leave United following a slow start to the club's business in the transfer window this summer.

The 37-year-old subsequently failed to report for pre-season training on Monday, citing family reasons, making his future at the club remaining uncertain.

Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia is on the verge of becoming United's first signing, having undergone medical checks ahead of signing a five-year deal at Old Trafford.
