Super Falcons Bounce Back With A 2-0 Victory Against Botswana... WAFCON 2022.

The Super Falcons of Nigeria bounced back to winning ways at the ongoing Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) following a 2-0 victory against Botswana in the second round of Group C match on Thursday night.

It was a vital three points on the night for the defending champions, who earned their first win having kicked off their campaign with a disappointing 2-1 loss to Banyana Banyana ladies on Monday.

Head Coach Randy Waldrum made three changes to the line up against South Africa.

The American started veterans Francesca Ordega and Ngozi Okobi, while Chiamaka Nnadozie returned as first choice goalkeeper after serving her suspension.

Ashleigh Plumptre was not listed in the squad over fitness concerns, and due to the huge injury blow to Asisat Oshoala which ended her campaign, Ifeoma Onumonu started as the lone Striker upfront.

The entertaining encounter which went down at Prince Moulay El-Hassan stadium in Morocco, began with both sides sizing themselves and trying hard to show supremacy.

Ifeoma Onumonu opened the scoring with sent a low drive short through a beautiful pass from Halimatu Ayinde in the 21st minute for the Super Falcons who looked more impressive, played with more directness and coordination than they managed against South Africa.

Substitute Christy Ucheibe headed home a well-crafted corner from Toni Payne three minutes (48 mins) into the second half to make it 2-0.

Botswana goalkeeper Maitumelo Bosija further made some smart saves to deny Ifeoma Onumonu and Christy Ucheibe from getting their brace on the night.

The Super Falcons currently seats in the second position in Group C with three points and a goal advantage above Botswana who are third.

Botswana will face group leaders South Africa in their final group encounter while Nigeria to play a very poor Burundi side.

A win for the Falcons on Sunday July 10 will guarantee them passage to the Quarter-final.
