Manchester United has officially completed the signing of Antony dos Santos from Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam on transfer deadline day Thursday morning.

Ahead of Anthony's Old Trafford move and with Ajax having rejected repeated bids from United, Antony reportedly refused to play in Ajax's final two games as he looked to push through a Premier League move.

He also expressed his desire to leave publicly, through Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano, as the two clubs thrashed out a fee.

The Brazilian attacking midfielder, has put pen to paper on a five-year contract that will see him become a Devil until the summer of 2027 with an option for a further year.

Antony becomes United's third most expensive signing after Paul Pogba (£93.3m) and Romelu Lukaku (£90m).

Antony has 31 goals and 27 assists in 134 club appearances for Ajax and Sao Paulo. He joined the Dutch outfit for £20m fee under Ten Hag's reign from Sao Paulo in 2020. The 22-year-old has two goals and two assists in nine senior appearances for his native Brazil.

He has won two Eredivisie titles, and a gold medal in the 2020 Summer Olympics.

The move to United sees Antony reunited with ex-Ajax boss Erik ten Hag, who has already recruited defender Lisandro Martinez from his former club, Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord and Christian Eriksen on a free transfer.

Anthony expressed his delight on joining the Premier League giants Man United;

"This is an incredible moment in my career to be joining one of the most iconic clubs in the world," Antony said.

"I'm thankful to everyone who has believed in me, especially my family, and all my coaches and team-mates, because I could not have got here without them.

"Playing under Erik ten Hag at Ajax was perfect for me and my development. His style of football and coaching brings out the best in me, and I am excited by what he has told me about his plans and ambitions in Manchester.

"My time at Ajax was fantastic and I will always be grateful for the trust they put in me, but now I am ready for the next challenge, and I can't wait to join my new team-mates and play my part in bringing success to Manchester United."

Manchester United football director John Murtough added: "Antony is one of the most exciting young talents in European football and has exactly the right profile for the attacking, dynamic team Erik is building.

"We have been especially impressed by his desire to join Manchester United, and to be part of a long-term project to get the club back to the levels of performance we all expect."
