England And Germany Held In An Exciting 6-goal Thriller

In their poorest form since before Southgate became manager, England entered their game on Monday night with real pressure building on him for the first time.

After losing their first five games, they were demoted from the top group of the Nations League after last week's defeat to Italy.

Since they had only scored once from open play in their previous games, they desperately needed a boost going into their final game before the World Cup against Germany.

The teams went into the halftime tied at 0-0 despite the hosts having significantly the better of the first half thanks to a superb pass from Luke Shaw that gave Raheem Sterling his finest opportunity.

Harry Maguire, who was chosen amid much criticism, gave away a penalty by a clumsy challenge on Jamal Musiala in the 52nd minute, giving Germany the lead.

The Manchester United captain received more criticism in the 67th minute after he lost control of the ball high up the field, allowing the visitors to score again through Kai Havertz of Chelsea to double their advantage.

However, courtesy to Southgate's replacements, England scored three times in the next 12 minutes to complete an astonishing comeback.

The Chelsea player scored the equalizer after substitutes Bukayo Saka and Masoun Mount combined to score one back for the Euro 2020 finalists through Luke Shaw.

After Jude Bellingham was fouled on the edge of the box, Harry Kane scored the third goal from the penalty spot, and it appeared that Southgate would finally secure a victory.

In contrast, Nick Pope erred in the 87th minute by failing to hold onto a shot, and Havertz scored his second goal of the game by tapping in from a yard away.
