Liverpool star Roberto Firmino To Leave The Club In The Summer As A Free Agent.

Roberto Firmino is set to leave Liverpool when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The Brazilian forward contract expires in June and he will not extend it, therefore leaving as a free agent when the transfer window opens, with his next destination unknown.

He has reportedly informed manager Jurgen Klopp of his decision during training on Friday ahead of a crucial match at home to fierce rivals Manchester United on Sunday.

It is understood Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wanted Firmino to stay with the club beyond this summer while the player was in discussions over a new contract, but now he wants to pursue a fresh challenge.

His departure, would bring an eight successful years with the Reds to an end, after his move to the Merseyside club from German side Hoffenheim for £29m in June, 2015 under former boss Brendan Rodgers.

Since then, Firmino has gone on to score a total of 107 goals, providing 70 assists in 353 games in all competitions.

He became the highest-scoring Brazilian striker in Premier League history in 2019 and now has 78 goals in the top flight.

The 31-year-old has been instrumental in Klopp's tenure and helped the Reds become top contenders in world football.

He helped Liverpool win the Champions League in the 2018/19 season, the Premier League trophy a year later which ended Liverpool's 30 years wait for the league title.

He has also won the FA Cup, EFL Cup and Club World Cup during his time at Anfield.

Firmino played in the centre of Liverpool's iconic attacking trio flanked by current teammate Mohamed Salah, and Sadio Mane, who left the club to join Bayern Munich last year.

This season, Firmino has struck nine times and contributed four assists in 26 appearances so far, although he has struggled with injury.

Unfortunately, Firmino has only completed 90 minutes on three occasions in the Premier League this season, and has fallen down the pecking order behind summer signing Darwin Nunez and January arrival Cody Gakpo.
