ALL ABOUT THE AFCON 2019

The Afcon 2019 also known as the African Cup Of Nations 2019 as organized by the confederation of African Football (CAF) is going to be the 32nd edition of the tournament, and the most anticipated for,with so much enthusiasm in the history of African football.




For the first time in history, the world and Africa as a continent will witness a total number of 24 teams play in the competition instead of the regular 16 teams. The football competition, which used to be held in January/February has been moved due to the January transfer window in Europe, and will now begin in June 21, to July 19, 2019. as per the decision of the CAF on 20 July 2017 and Egypt as the host nation.


The defending champions Cameroon was initially scheduled to host the 32nd edition of the tournament since 1972 when they last hosted but they were stripped of hosting right on 30 November 2018 due to delays in the delivery of infrastructure. Egypt was therefore chosen to host the 2019 tournament by CAF on 8 January 2019.

The group draws will be held on April 12, 2019 in Cairo Egypt, the 24 teams have been seeded into 4 pots based on the CAF national team rankings, The 24 teams will therefore be drawn into six groups of four teams each.
The top two teams of each group, along with the best four third placed teams will advance to the round of 16.
