Spanish Legend and former Barcelona star Xavi Hernandez plans to retire from football at the end of the Season.

The Spanish retired professional footballer and Legend, Xavi Hernandez, born 25th January 1980, Age 39, who currently plies his trade as a central midfielder in Qatari sport club Al Sadd in the Qatar stars league after leaving Barcelona in 2015 on a three-year contract, has planned to retire permanently from football at the end of the season.
Xavi annouces retirement

The former Barcelona star man Xavi, known for his stability and perfect coordination as a central midfielder, won eight La Liga titles and four champions league for Barcelona. Played a total of 428 matches for the Spanish side, Scored 52 goals and created 66 assists in his 17-year stay at Barcelona.

The 2010 world cup winner, Xavi internationally in a 14-year period, was capped 133 times for the Spanish national team scoring 13 goals. He won the UEFA Euro 2008 trophy with Spain, where he was named the player of the tournament. He retired from Spanish national team on 5th August 2014, immediately after Spain elimination in the group stage at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. He won a total number of 31 trophies for Barcelona and Spain.

However, Xavi Hernandez, feels that it is the right time for him to hang his boots after an unforgettable race that lasted for 21 years which has taken me all over the world. He also feels that he would begin a coaching career as he is excited to see what the future holds for him.


According to him, "What i have achieved in the last two decades has been a great privilege."

"My philosophy as a coach reflects the style we developed for many years under the influence of Johan Cruyff and La Masia, and that has its greatest exponent in the way of playing football in Barcelona."

"I love seeing all the teams take the initiative in the field, play attacking style of football and return to the essence of what we all love from our childhood days: possession football. It has been a privileged to play football since i was 11, until i was 39 years old."  Xavi added.



 Former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi message to Xavi, "It was a great pleasure to share locker room with you, Lots of games and moments together and honestly, we miss you since the first day you decided to leave the club, Especially for all those moments you helped us both on and off the pitch."
"You know that I will always wish you the best in this new stage of your life. I am sure you will be successful as you have always been in these new phase of your football career. BIG HUG." The Argentine added.

Former Barcelona and Spanish teammate Xavi: "I have run out of compliments. There is no one who can compare to what he represents as a person and a player. His stats, the years, the feelings, the conjures, his way of doing things are actually beyond words. He is a unique player, unrepeatable."

Spanish teammate Fernando Torres on Twitter wrote, "There will never be another like you Xavi. It has been a huge privilege to play and win by your side. Enjoy what is left of the season and my best wishes for what's coming. Thank you for everything you have given to the world of football."
