Arsenal’s priority through out the January transfer window, has been to bring in a left sided centre-back to stabilize the team defence following their defensive crisis over the years, and with just three days left of the transfer window, they completes Pablo Mari's signing.

Mustafi and David Luiz seems to be the only available defender for the Gunners right now, as, Arsenal have seen injury struck Kieran Tierney, Sead Kolasinac, Callum Chambers and
Sokratis.

The signing means that Mikel Arteta's side who have struggled with keeping clean sheet so far this campaign will now head into the final months of the season with five centre-backs to choose from in Pablo Mari, Mustafi, David Luiz, Sokratis and Rob Holding.

The 26-year-old Pablo Marí speaking to the Arsenal Media on his first interview with the club after his transfer say :
It’s a great achievement for me to come to Arsenal, and it all happened in basically two weeks. I’m kind of used to [the media attention] from Brazil, where the fans are really passionate about Flamengo, so I know what to expect when joining a big club like Arsenal".

“When I spoke to my agent, it was a big thing that Arsenal were interested in me. This is one of the best clubs in the world, so I’m absolutely delighted to be joining. I’m really looking forward to playing in this jersey, and helping my team.”

“I’m a very professional player. I like working hard every day to achieve objectives.
"One thing I can control is working hard on a daily basis to help my team-mates to win matches, and repay the faith that the Manager and Arsenal have shown me by signing me to play here.”

The Spaniard, also went on to speak about his encounter with Liverpool against Flamengo in the Club World Cup last month in Qatar and also his expections on facing them in the Premier League with his new club Arsenal:
“It was a great experience. It was really exciting to play against a big club, and i think i performed really well. At the end of the day, they’re just people like everyone else.”

“Obviously they’re in great form at the moment and, they’re among the best players in the world, but I am now in a fantastic team (Arsenal) with top players. This is football, it's unpredictable and that’s the way you have to look at it.”
"I have a lot of faith in this great club, and I know we’re going to do very well.”

Cloud Nine sports also understand that Arsenal have began conversations to sign Mari weeks ago as Mikel Arteta's first signing for the club as Manager. Mari had just won the League, the Copa Libertadores and was also named best centre-back in America. He now becomes the first left-footed centre-back to sign for Arsenal since Thomas Vermaelen in June 2009 with good footballing ability.
