Chelsea initially finished second place with 11 points in the group stages (H) of the competition, same points with group leaders Valencia to qualify to the round of 16 konckout stages, before drawing Bayern Munich last December.
The match which went down at the Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night, ended in an embarassing defeat for the London side.
Following a goalless first half scoreline, the second half began highly intensed for both teams on the pitch, before former Arsenal's winger Serge Gnabry broke the deadlock scoring the first goal in the 51st minutes, and netting the second almost immediately in the 54th minutes.
Robert Lewandoski finished the scoring on the night in the 76th minutes giving Han-Dieter Flick's men a 3 away goals advantage into the return leg.

He concluded by saying that the system they played at the weekend victory at home to Mourinho's Spurs team didn't work well for the team on the night and that they have it all to do in the second leg;
This would be the second time this season Bayern Munich would be defeating a London team in London, having won Tottenham 7-2 at the Tottenham stadium last November under former manager Mauricio Pochettino.

"Bayern Munich’s levels were fantastic. Unless we were to get everything right it was going to be a tough night. We didn’t get everything bang on, we weren’t confident on the ball. That was my biggest disappointment, mostly from start to finish.
"There is a lot of quality in their team, and a build to it with players like Lewandowski, Muller, Boateng, Neuer, Alaba, who have been there a long time. There is a lot to their team we have to respect.
"A lot of players there either haven’t played Champions League knockout football, have played Europa League which is a big difference, or have played it a few years ago and not at Chelsea when we were getting to semi-finals and finals."
"The defeat was a harsh lesson and a reality for the players of the levels we want to get to, it was an eye-opener, the only answer, young or old, is to not look at any other part of the team but yourself."
"We have to go to Munich and play with a lot of pride and see what we can do there. We can’t consider too much the scoreline in terms of how we approach it. It’s pretty clear we are in a very bad position going into the second leg. It’s a show of character, that’s all we can do."
