Arsenal Manager Mikel Arteta's, Has Tested Positive For Coronavirus.

Arsenal has announced that manager Mikel Arteta has tested positive for coronavirus.


In line with Government health guidelines, the club personnel who had recent close contact with him will self-isolate, including the full first-team squad and coaching staff.

The 37-year-old Spanish international, took training on Tuesday with the whole squad and started to feel ill on Wednesday. He was tested and positive result came through tonight. Club is now effectively closed, while they work through who he has come into what is considered close contact.


Mikel Arteta on being diagnosed of the virus:
"This is really disappointing but I took the test after feeling poorly. I will be at work as soon as I’m allowed".

Arsenal released a club statement via the clubs website saying;
"We will work with Public Health England on the next steps in regard to our facilities and staff, but it is clear we will not be able to play some fixtures on their currently scheduled dates"
"We will update supporters who have tickets for forthcoming games with more information as soon as possible."

Raul Sanllehi who is the Head of Football at Arsenal added:
“Mikel and the full first-team squad, players and staff, will be fully supported, and we look forward to getting back to training and playing as soon as medical advice allows. Obviously Mikel’s full recovery is the priority now for us all.”


The Premier League who earlier announced that all club games scheduled for this weekend will go as planned, later reannounced 40 minutes later that they will convene an emergency club meeting early Friday morning regarding fixtures after Arsenal manager tested positive for COVID-19.

The Premier League matches scheduled for this weekend may likely be suspended after the conclusion of that meeting.
