I Am Not Okay With Playing Football Amid The Coronavirus Pandemic... Nigerian Star John Mikel Obi

Nigerian international John Obi Mikel on Saturday, made his intentions known that he is not comfortable with playing football amid the Coronavirus outbreak.


Following the suspension of various Europe top 5 leagues, the Turkish Super Lig will however continue on the basis that all games would be played behind closed doors.

The 32-year-old former Super Eagles captain, has urged the Super Lig chiefs to cancel the season, as football is a contact sport.

Mikel who plays as a defensive midfielder for Trabzonspor, wrote via his official Instagram handle saying;
"There are important things in life from football. I don't feel comfortable and I don't want to play football in this situation. At such a critical time, everyone should be at home with their family and loved ones. The season should be canceled, as the world is facing such turbulent times."


The post has gotten more than 54,000 likes and 4,000 comments some from top football stars, one of which includes that if the 34-year-old Argentine Radamel Falcao who currently plays for Galatasaray in the same league with Mikel.

Falcao comment says; you are right Mikel, Life is more important than football.


Mikel's team are set to play a crucial match away Istanbul Basaksehir on Sunday at 2:00pm (WAT).

As it stands, Trabzonspor currently tops the league table with 52 points, same points with second place Istanbul Basaksehir, and Galatasaray in third with 49 points, after 25 matches each.
