Lokomotiv Moscow Annouces The Tragic Death Of A Defender, Innokentiy Samokhvalov

Russian club side Lokomotiv Moscow have announced the tragic death of defender Innokentiy Samokhvalov, who slumped and died during an individual training session in his home due to the Coronavirus outbreak.





Football activities across major countries around the world are currently suspended which is in line with the government lockdown measures, so as to curtail the spread of the deadly virus which has claimed thousands of lives across the globe.

The 22-year-old passed away earlier on Monday, after suffering cardiac arrest, as he Leaves behind his wife and son.


“He felt bad during an individual training session, the circumstances (surrounding his death) are still being clarified,” Lokomotiv said in a statement.

“He was a kind, nice man, a good friend. It’s deeply sad for our family.”



The centre-back arrived at Lokomotiv in 2015, but is yet to make an appearance in the Russian Premier League.

He currently plays for Lokomotiv’s reserve team Kazanka in Russia’s third tier, and his previous match was against was against Ural Yekaterinburg in Russian Cup, which ended in a 1-0 result in favour of Lokomotiv Moscow.

Meanwhile, Lokomotiv Moscow are currently in third place with 41 points, and 9 points behind league leaders Zenit St.Petersburg in the Russian Premier League standings, with just 8 matches more to go to complete the season, which is expected to resume late in May.
