England Right-back Keiran Trippier May Face Lengnthy Ban From Football, Following Charges By The FA For Breaking Betting Rules.
Atletico Madrid right-back Kieran Trippier has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association for allegedly breaching betting rules, the charges relate to alleged betting around his £21.7m transfer from Tottenham to Atletico Madrid in the 2019 summer transfer window.
The 29-year-old England international has also insisted that he has never in his career, placed any football-related bets or received any financial benefit from others betting.
"I have fully complied with the FA's investigation over the past several months on a voluntary basis and will continue to do so," Trippier told Sky Sports.
"I want to make it clear that while a professional footballer, I have at no stage placed any football-related bets or received any financial benefit from others betting."
Kieran Trippier could face a lengthy ban from football and a fine, as he has been given a deadline of 18th May 2020 by the FA to respond to the charges.
The former Burnley and Tottenham Hotspur player became the first England international in 95 years to sign for La Liga club Atlético Madrid last July, on a three-year contract, for a reported fee of £20 million plus add-ons.
He has went on to make 26 appearances for Diego Simone team this season and creating 4 assist across all competitions.
You may recall that former England international Daniel Sturridge was fined £75,000 and issued a worldwide ban from football early in March, for the same offence of breaking the FA's gambling rules.
The ban was in reference to an incident that occurred in January 2018, when Sturridge was alleged to have offered inside information regarding a possible transfer.
According to the commission, the former Man City and Chelsea player, told his brother Leon to bet on a possible transfer to La Liga outfit Sevilla.
The ban led to the termination of his contract with Turkish side Trabzonspor who signed him on a free transfer after his contract with Liverpool expired in 2019.
