Manuel Neuer Extends Contract Stay With Bayern Munich To 2023.
Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has signed a new contract that will see him remain with club till the summer of 2023.
The German shot-stopper who has spent close to a decade at Bayern Munich, since his training for to the club from Schalke in 2011, has now extended his stay even further, ending weeks of speculations over his future.
Bayern have also reportedly been linked to sign a replacement for the aging captain, and Schalke keeper Nubel, seems to be a top priority.
According to reports, Manuel Neuer gets a pay rise for his contract extension (previous estimated annual salary 15 million euros). However, Neuer's new salary does not exceed €20m.
"FC Bayern are very happy Manuel has extended his contract until 30 June 2023,
“He is the best goalkeeper in the world and our captain"... says Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in a statement released via the clubs website.
Legendary goalkeeper Oliver Kahn who is a Bayern Munich executive board member said:
“I can easily put myself in the situation Manuel is in. We understand the direction Manuel wants to take in this phase of his career and what’s important to him. He’s sent a strong signal with this extension.”
The 34-year-old Neuer speaking about his contract extension with the Bundesliga Champions says;
“During the weeks of the shutdown for the coronavirus pandemic, I didn't want to make a decision because nobody knew if, when and how Bundesliga football would continue.
“It was important for me to continue working with our goalkeeping coach Toni Tapalovic.
"Now this has been resolved, I look to the future with great optimism.
"I feel very comfortable and at home in Bavaria.
"FC Bayern are one of Europe’s top football clubs.”
Manuel Neuer was in goal for Bayern last Sunday, keeping a clean sheet in their 2-0 victory away to Union Berlin, as the Bundesliga became the first major league in Europe to make a sensational return to action after almost two-months Coronavirus break.
He has made 375 appearances for the club, helping the club to win 18 trophies including Seven League titles, five German Cups and the Champions League in 2013 and the Club World Cup.
The Four-times World's best Goalkeeper, has also earned 92 caps for the German national team and was part of the side that won the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
