Juventus Star Cristiano Ronaldo Has Become The First Ever Football Billioniare In History...

Cristiano Ronaldo has surpassed Lionel Messi to become the first ever footballer in history to earn $1billion across his 17-years playing career.

According to Forbes, Cristiano Ronaldo is the first to reach the earnings milestone in a team sport (Football), as he earned $105 million before taxes and fees in the past year, landing him at No.4 on the 2020 Forbes Celebrity 100, one spot above his top rival in the sport, Lionel Messi, and making him the first ever football billionaire.

Ronaldo’s 2020 earnings include a salary of $60 million, slightly less than last year because of a 30% pay cut he agreed to take this April as a result of the pandemic. Messi, who earned $104 million in the past year after taking a 70% pay cut while the coronavirus sidelined play, is poised to surpass $1 billion in all-time earnings as soon as next year, before his current Barça contract ends.

CloudNine Sports had reported in April that the Juventus star man became the third sportsman in the world to reach the milestone while still playing, after American golf legend Tiger Woods did it in 2009 and American boxer Floyd Mayweather who also did it in 2017.

Ronaldo and Messi’s head-to-heads heated up in 2009 while he was still playing for Real Madrid in Spanish La Liga, as both players won the Ballon d'Or four times.

Barcelona won La Liga’s title six times and two Champions Leagues trophies with Messi on the squad, while Real Madrid won the Spanish title twice and the Champions League four times with Ronaldo.

CloudNine Sports understands that Barcelona star Lionel Messi earned more than Ronaldo last season 2018/19, but Ronaldo has amassed an ever-growing following of fans through his poster-boy good looks, his trend-setting hair styles and the CR7 fashion brand has fetched him about £100M in the 2019/20 season.

In January, the 35-year-old Portuguese became the first individual to reach 200 million followers on Instagram , and his spirited and activeness across other social media platform like Facebook and Twitter has made him the most popular athlete on the planet.

He was the top-earners from sports on Instagram during the two-months lockdown period by amassing an estimated £1.9m for 4 sponsored posts (£470,584 per post).

The Superstar Ronaldo just recently returned to training with the Juventus squad last month in preparation for the resumption of the Serie A season on 20th June.
