PSG Star Kylian Mbappé Suffers A Serious Ankle Injury And Would Be Out For Close To Three Weeks.
Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that playmaker Kylian Mbappe will be out of the squad for close to three weeks due to a serious ankle injury.
CloudNine Sports had reported that the French star limped off the pitch in tears after a dangerous tackle earlier in their 1-0 victory game against St-Étienne in the Coupe de France final last Friday which PSG were crowned champions afterwards.
Though Mbappé later returned to the touchline on crutches and bandage wrapped over his right ankle for the trophy presentation.
Following a scan on the affected right ankle on Monday, PSG confirmed that "the result shows that Kylian Mbappé sustained an ankle sprain with a damage to the external ligament, and he is expected to be sidelined for approximately three weeks".
This means that the 21-year-old will miss the Coupe de la Ligue final against Lyon on Friday, and the Champions League quarter-final first-leg clash against Atalanta on August 12th at the Estadio da Luz, in Portugal.
Thomas Tuchel's side had knocked-out Borussia Dortmund in the last 16 earlier in March before the competition was suspended amid the coronavirus pandemic.
With the semi-finals programmed for August 18-19 and the final to be held August 23 in Lisbon, PSG who are aiming for a champions league glory, could face either Atlético Madrid or RB Leipzig in the semi-final if they defeat Atalanta.
The 2018 World Cup winner Mbappé has scored 30 goals and created 18 assists across all competitions this season for PSG.
