OFFICIAL: Chelsea Have Completed The Signing Of Kai Havertz From Bayer Leverkusen On A Five-year Deal

Chelsea have completed the signing of German Wonderkid Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen for a fee of £71million.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder, signed a five-year contract with the Blues which will keep him at the club until June 2025.

Harvertz became Chelsea's second German international signing this summer following the arrival of Timo Wener from another Bundesliga club RB Leipzig, and is in addition to the other new signings of Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva as Frank Lampard’s strengthens his squad for the forthcoming season.

The London blue club also signed young French defender Malang Sarr, but as part of Havertz deal, Chelsea have offered Leverkusen the chance to sign Sarr on loan for the season to gain more experience.

Kai Havertz expressed his delight after the completion of the deal via the club's website;

"For me it is a dream come true to play in a big club like Chelsea and I can't wait to meet all the players and the trainers. Yeah, I am very happy to be here!"

"I read messages from the fans and they write me often on my social media accounts, I saw it, and I can't wait to play in front of the fans, I promise to do my best to make them proud "

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia also added:

"Kai is one of the best players of his age in world football, so we are very happy that his future lies at Chelsea.

"He has proven pedigree in one of the best leagues in Europe, he plays for the German national side and he is an exciting, dynamic talent. 

"We are delighted to be able to add his versatility and quality to the squad before the season begins."

Havertz had completed his medical with Chelsea on Sunday in London before joining up with Germany in Stuttgart for their Nations League fixtures.

Though he was an unused substitute in their 1-1 draw with Spain on Thursday night.

He left the German squad on Friday morning to complete his move to Stamford Bridge as confirmed by his club Bayer Leverkusen and Germany, with the club thanking the national team for cooperating.

Havertz has spent his entire career at Bayer Leverkusen having joined the team at the age of 11 in 2010, He made his senior debut as the youngest Bundesliga player in October 2016, and has scored an impressive 36 goals and 25 assists in just 118 Bundesliga appearances.

He became one of German football’s highest-rated young players following his breakthrough at Bayer Leverkusen in the 2017/18 season, and was a regular in the team at the BayArena, becoming increasingly influential to the side, helping them return to European competition with a fifth-place finish.

Havertz scored 20 goals and made 8 assists across all competitions last season.

CloudNine Sports understands that having captained Germany’s Under-19s, he made his senior debut as a late substitute for Werner in a friendly against Peru in September 2018 and scored his first goal in a 2-2 draw with Argentina almost exactly a year later. He has seven caps and one goal.
