Man United Playmaker Juan Mata Losses Mum After Severe Illness.

Man United playmaker Juan Mata is currently in mourning following the death of his mum on Monday.

According to Spanish publication La Nueva Espana, Mata's mother Marta Garcia passed away after a long battle with severe illness that had lasted for several months.

She had two children, "Mata and his sister Paulo" and was described in the media as a “very dear, good and loving person.”

Manchester United confirmed the tragic news via twitter : “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Juan Mata’s mother, Marta Garcia. Thinking of you and your family, Juan.”

The 2010 World Cup winner with Spain loves his mum so much that they would call on his way to the stadium before every match and she would regularly text him during the game for him to see her message after full-time.

Mata '32' had told Manchester United’s official website in 2019:

"My mother has always been more worried about my physical wellbeing during a match than the result.

"That’s why, even now, I always call her when I’m on the coach on the way to the stadium. Always.

"It’s a ritual that we both enjoy, and which is also an extra source of motivation for me. 'Be careful. Enjoy, shoot... and try not to get hurt,' are always her words.

"My mother is undoubtedly a key figure in my life.

"I will always do everything that’s in my hands to make her happy. She deserves it more than anyone else."

The former Valencia and Chelsea player have received heartwarming message from football fans, friends, and fellow United teammates.

Bruno Fernandes sends message of support to Juan Mata; "Friend, a very string hug for you and your family."

The likes of Goalkeeper David De Gea and Ander Herrera all posted supportive messages for their friend on social media as well.

Mata who joined the Red Devils from Chelsea in January 2014 under former boss Jose Mourinho, has scored 50 goals for United in 267 appearances across all competitions.

His current conycont with the club is set to expire this summer, and if Man United fails to utilize the option of extending his contract by a year, Italy likely seems to be his next destination.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Juan and his family at this time.
