Kevin De Bruyne Extends His Contract With Man City till 2025

Manchester City's playmaker Kevin de Bruyne has committed the remainder of his career at the Etihad Stadium.

The Belgium international, whose existing contract was due to expire in 2023, turns 30 in June, has now signed a new two-year contract extension with the club until 2025.

Man City made the official announcement      on Wednesday (April 7) via the club's website; “This is a very significant moment for this football club... Said the clubs director of football Txiki Begiristain.

"His performance level has been remarkably consistent since coming to City, and in the last few years he has developed into one of the game's elite playersd.

"His dedication to Manchester City during his time here has been nothing short of extraordinary. 

"He constantly seeks to improve, and his approach is the perfect blueprint for any young player looking to carve out a career.

"Everyone at Manchester City is delighted with the news and we all want to take this opportunity to congratulate Kevin and wish him all the very best for the remainder of his time here".

Kevin De Bruyne has spent five-and-a-half years at the Etihad, since joining City in 2015 after an impressive form in the Bundesliga with Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg.

He had further established himself as one of the world’s finest creative players, winning two Premier League titles, one FA Cup and four League Cups, as well as the 2020 PFA Player of the Year award, becoming the first male City player to win the coveted prize, and was also named Premier League Player of the Season (2020) and UEFA Midfielder of the Year (2020).

In total, De Bruyne has played 255 games for City, scoring 65 and assisting 105.

"I could not be happier," he said. "Since joining City in 2015, I have felt at home. I love the fans, my family are settled here in Manchester and my own game has developed really well.

"This football club is geared for success. It offers me everything I need to maximise my performance, so signing this contract was a straightforward decision.

"I am playing the best football of my career and I honestly feel there is more to come."

He also revealed that he and Spanish manager Pep Guardiola have a very good relationship and the same football philosophy.

“My focus now is on ensuring we have a successful end to the current campaign. Our results and performances so far have been excellent, but we need to make sure we end the season with the silverware we deserve.”

De Bruyne has been outstanding this season, scoring seven and creating 16 assists already, and on the verge of winning the quadruple.

City are currently 14 points clear at the top of the Premier League table, into the quarter-finals of the Champions League, the semi-finals of the FA Cup and the final of the Carabao Cup.
