Lionel Messi Miss Out Of Barcelona Training Today, May Have Played His Last Game For The Club.

Barcelona star Lionel Messi could have played his last game for the club after missing out of training with his fellow teammates today.

The club confirmed today, that the Argentine forward was granted technical permission to miss Barcelona’s final game of the season tomorrow away to Eibar.

The decision was made on the basis of giving Messi enough rest for the Copa America which begins 11th June to 10th July 2021.

Messi's last game of this season came in the recent disappointing 2-1 defeat to Celta Vigo last weekend which ended all hopes of clinching the La Liga title this season.

Fierce rivals Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid have it all to fight for in their final games of the season this weekend.

But, Messi who is still yet to pen a new deal for Barcelona, could have been said to have played his last game in the Blaugana colours should he decides to leave this summer.

The six-time Ballon d'Or winner shocked the world when he publicly announced his decision to quit Barcelona before the beginning of the current season. He was ultimately compelled to stay as the Catalans refused to negotiate a potential exit. Still, rumors that he would leave once his deal expired this year have been persistent.

Report claims that Barcelona feels “calm” about Lionel Messi’s contract renewal, as the Catalans hope to get the deal done and avoid public drama.

The Presidential election of Joan Laporta and the the imminent arrival of compatriot Sergio Aguero from Manchester City, have been strong factors for the fans optimism of the 33-year-old remaining at the club.

It has been a strange season for Barca under Ronald Koeman, with the team in transition, and impress and underwhelm in games.

When it looked like the team are getting stronger after a tough start to the season, they blow up the chance to go top the La Liga table after failing to pick maximum point in games against Granada, Atletico Madrid, Levante and Celta Vigo respectively.

They had crashed out of the Champions League on 5-2 aggregate result against PSG in the round-of-16.

Though Lionel Messi clinched his seventh Copa del Rey trophy with Barcelona against Athletic Bilbao in Seville last month.

The skipper admitted it was a special feeling to lift the Copa del Rey as Barca captain, after scoring twice in an impressive 4-0 victory that hands coach Ronald Koeman a first trophy as Barcelona boss.

“It’s very special to be the captain of this club. It’s a very special Copa for me because I’m able to lift it,” he said.

So with nothing on the line again this season, Messi is set to take an early holiday in preparation for the Copa America, as he hopes to finally get his hands on the prestigious trophy.

The prolific goalscorer and playmaker, is set to also win the LaLiga golden boot award, with his 30 strikes in 35 games this season, and seven ahead of nearest contender Gerardo Moreno with 23.

Despite several speculation about his future Messi has still manage to score 38 goals, and 14 assists in 47 appearances across all competition this season.

Manchester City and PSG are closely monitoring the situation at Nou Camp, as they are really pushing big to land the football superstar.
