Novak Djokovic Defeats Matteo Berrettini To Win His SIXTH Wimbledon Crown.

Novak Djokovic has beaten Matteo Berrettini in the Wimbledon final to win a record-equaling 20th Grand Slam title.

Djokovic rallied to a four-set victory over Italian seventh seed Matteo Berrettini in the Wimbledon final on Sunday.

He bounced back from a first-set down to win 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-4, 6-3.

It was Djokovic’s sixth Wimbledon title (2011, 2014, 2015, 2018, 2019, 2021), and 20th title at a major tournament, putting him tied for first on the all-time list with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. 

Djokovic in total has won 9 Australian Open titles, 2 French Open titles, 3 US Open titles and now 6 Wimbledon titles.

The Wimbledon crown, was the third title of the year for the top-ranked Serbian star after claiming the Australian Open earlier this year against Daniil Medvedev, as well as the French Open vs Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Djokovic becomes the first player since Rod Laver in 1969 to win the first three titles of the year, keeping him on track to emulate the Australian by claiming a calendar Grand Slam.

He now needs just the US Open title to complete a remarkable calendar-year grand slam and achieve the status of being the greatest player ever in the sports history.

The 34-year-old could also become the first man ever to win a Golden Slam as he will now turn his attention to the Olympics in Tokyo where he will be hot favourite to claim the Gold medal before the final major of the year begins in New York this August.

"That was more than a battle. Congratulations to Matteo for a fantastic tournament. It was a tough match today. He's a true Italian hammer," said Djokovic.

"Winning Wimbledon was always the biggest dream as a kid. I have to remember how special this is and not take it for granted and be aware this is a huge honour and privilege.

"From being a seven-year-old constructing a Wimbledon trophy out of raw materials to standing here with a sixth trophy. It's incredible."

On drawing level with Nadal and Federer, he added: "It means none of us three will stop!

"I have to pay a great tribute to Rafa and Roger. They are legends of our sport. The two most important players I ever faced.

"They are the reason I am where I am today. They made me realise what I had to do to improve. The last 10 years has been an incredible journey that is not stopping here."
