Bad News: Victor Osimhen To Miss Out Of The Africa Cup of Nations With The Super Eagles.

Italian club Napoli have announced that Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is set to be sidelined for ninety-days (3 months) with a facial injury.



Osimhen was diagnosed with multiple facial fractures after a clash of heads with Inter defender Milan Skriniar on Sunday. CloudNine Sports reported that He was forced to leave the pitch with the aid of medics just 5 mins before the hour mark.


The 22-year-old underwent surgery on his cheekbone and eye socket this morning and the player’s recovery time has been revealed by Serie A leaders Napoli with an official statement published on their website on Tuesday.

“On Tuesday morning, Victor Osimhen was operated on his cheekbone and eye socket by Gianpaolo Tartaro, who was assisted by Dr Mario Santagata with Dr Raffaele Canonico also present... The statement reads.

Titanium plates and screws were used in the operation.

“The player is doing well and will remain under observation for the next few days.

“Osimhen is expected to return to action in three months.”


The injury comes as a huge blow for Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti who hoped Osimhen would only be out of action for some few weeks, as his team looks to put up a strong title challenge for in Serie A this season. 

He has scored five Serie A goals and four more in the Europa League for Napoli, and a total of nine goals in 14 appearances this season, making him Napoli's leading goalsscorer this season.


It also comes as a very sad news to Nigerians, as number one inform striker Osimhen would also miss the Africa Cup of Nations that begins on January 9, 2022 with Cameroon the host Nation.

Osimhen netted four times in six games to help Nigeria reach Africa's World Cup qualifying play-offs next March for a place in Qatar 2022.
