Sergio Aguero In Tears As He Officially Announces Retirement.

Sergio Aguero has announced his retirement from football at the age of 33 due to a heart condition.

The Barcelona striker announced his retirement at a news conference on Wednesday, joined by Barca president Joan Laporta.

Aguero was invited on stage at the Camp Nou to speak but had trouble composing himself enough to get words out;

"This conference is to announce I have decided to stop playing professiional football. It is a very difficult moment... Said the Argentine.

"The decision I have taken for my health; the problem I had a month and a half ago. I have been in good hands with the medical staff.

"I made the decision 10 days ago after doing everything possible to have some hope of playing on.

I"am very proud for my career. I always dreamed of a professional career since the first time I touched a ball at five.

"I want to thank Atletico Madrid who took a chance on me when I was 18 and Manchester City, everyone knows who I feel about City and how well they treated me there."

 "I will leave with my head held high. I don't know what awaits me in the next part of my life. But I know I have people who love me. I will always remember the amazing things."

Sergio Aguero left Manchester City in the summer having broken their all-time scoring record, with 260 goals in 390 games, including 16 hat-tricks and winning five Premier League titles.

He joined Barca on a free transfer in the summer from City to team up with close friend Lionel Messi for the first time at club level, only to see Messi depart for PSG amid Barca's financial issues.

A calf injury delayed his debut until October, with his first goal coming in the El Clasico defeat to Real Madrid.

He was making just his fifth appearance and only his second start for his new club in the Alaves game on October 30 when the sad incidence occurred.

Aguero fell to the turf during the first-half of the encounter, holding his chest while in discomfort as club medics rushed on. After a lengthy spell of treatment on the pitch, Aguero was able to stand up and walk out of action, the striker was then swiftly sent for cardiological tests.
