"It's An Awful Performance" — Lingard Reacts To Manchester United Shocking Defeat To Liverpool

Manchester United's midfielder Jesse Lingard expresses his regret for the club's "embarrassing" loss to Liverpool, emphasizing the importance of regrouping and increasing effort ahead of their next crucial match away to Arsenal on Saturday.

The Red Devils' top-four aspirations were pumped with new life after Saturday's 3-2 win over Norwich, but Ralf Rangnick's men were knocked back down to earth with a disgraceful defeat at Anfield.

In a very smooth first half, Luis Diaz opened scoring just 5 minute into the game, and Mohamed Salah doubled the lead in the 22nd minute, with the visitors failing to register a chance on goal against their fiercest rivals.

The fixture was emotionally charged as both sets of fans all paid tribute at the seventh minute to the absent Cristiano Ronaldo who is mourning alongside his partner Georgina Rodriguez for the passing of their baby son after she had given birth to twins.

After the break, United lifted the intensity, only for Sadio Mane to score a 68th minute wonderful goal, and Salah rounded up by scoring a brace for himself on the night to seal a 4-0 victory against the Red Devils.

The result means that Jürgen Klopp's Reds are the first team to score 9 goals against Man United in a single Premier League season, having trashed them 5-0 at Old Trafford last October with Mo Salah scoring a Hat-trick in that encounter.

Liverpool are now two points clear at the top having played a game more than Manchester City.

Lingard described his season as "tough." "All I want to do is play football"... He said.

"It was fantastic to play Norwich the other week; I had a terrific time." I was settling into the swing of things when I was abruptly removed from the game. He described the loss as "awful." "It's a nightmare for the fans."

"When we're on the field and the scoreboard is displayed, you can see the misery." It's quite discouraging.

"All we can do is apologize to the fans." I know they will be there for us through bad and good, which we value as players.

"This week, we have the Arsenal game. We put in a lot of effort during the week, and how we train affects how we play, so I believe we can up the tempo and enthusiasm in training as well."

Lingard's long history with at the Theatre of Dreams is coming to an end, and it's not looking good.

The 29-year-old has made 231 appearances for the club, but has had his playing time limited in recent times and is likely to be one of many players who would leave at the end of his contract in the summer.
