"The Second Leg Fixture Against Real Madrid Will Be More Interesting" — Man City Defender, Zinchenko

Following an exciting 4-3 victory at the Etihad Stadium, Pep Guardiola's side has the upper hand ahead of next week's showdown in the Spanish capital.

However, with a late Karim Benzema penalty denying City a two-goal lead, the tie is still very much in doubt.

Despite gaining victory over Los Blancos, Zinchenko thinks that a second consecutive Champions League final is far from a foregone conclusion.

"At this level of the competition, you can't be relaxed for even a minute or less, especially against Real Madrid," he said.

"You can have complete control of the game for I don't know how many minutes, but then they have one moment and score the goal."

"At some point, you should be satisfied with this outcome because you still have the same lead, but it's not over yet, particularly against Real Madrid."

"They played Chelsea in the previous round, and you didn't know who would advance until the very end."

"Football can be excruciating at times because it appears like you have complete control of the game just to concede and be eliminated in a flash.

You must remain attentive for the next 90 minutes."

In next Wednesday's match at the Bernabeu, Zinchenko expects another enthralling confrontation between the two sides.

While the Ukrainian believes we must be at our best once more, he believes our previous Champions League experience will help us deal with the strain.

"I think everyone who watched this game (City 4-3 Real Madrid) appreciated it since there were so many goals, but this is only the first game, and we have another game next week," he remarked.

“It is going to be so tough because Real Madrid know how to play and they have the personality to play in this competition at this stage.

“We also have experience, so I think next week will be so interesting and we need to prepare ourselves as much as we can.

“You cannot be confident until it is done, especially when you play against Real Madrid.”
