HIGHLIGHTS: Final Match Day Drama In Manchester As Man City Retains The Premier League Crown.

Manchester City are crowned winners of the 2021/22 Premier League after a thrilling final day encounter against Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa team, beating rivals Liverpool to the title.

Guardiola's side scored three goals in five minutes to overturn a 2-0 deficit against Aston Villa and become this season's Premier League champions.



Aston Villa took a surprised two-goal lead at the Etihad Stadium thanks to goals from Matty Cash in the 37th minute and Philippe Coutinho to in the 69th minute respectively.

There was a state of shock around the Etihad, as rivals for the title Liverpool were drawing 1-1 against Wolves at the time at Anfield, there was optimism that City would turn things around.


Just nine days after the 10-year anniversary of the famous Sergio Aguero goal that won the Man City their first ever league title, Guardiola introduced Ilkay Gundogan in place of Bernardo Silva, and it was the German midfielder who really turned things around.

Gundogan scored in the 76th minute to reduce the deficit to one goal, Then, two minutes later, Oleksandr Zinchenko got past Cash and pulled the ball back to the edge of the box, where Rodri was waiting to simply guide his shot into the bottom corner.


The fans inside the Etihad raised their voice significantly cheering their team at this point, Gundogan  urned in Kevin De Bruyne's low cross from close range to score a third goal for the Cityzens in the 81st minute.

All three of City's substitutes - Zinchenko, Sterling and Gundogan - all had huge parts to play in the three goals.


City managed to see out the remainder of the game to win their Eighth league title in English top-flight, and fourth Premier League title in the last five years, under the guidance of Pep Guardiola. 


A club statement via the Man City's website reads; "Manchester City will celebrate retaining the Premier League title with an open-top bus parade through Manchester city centre on Monday 23rd May.

"Pep Guardiola and the squad will depart from Exchange Square at approximately 6pm, travel onto St Mary’s Gate and then south on Deansgate, before finishing at the Beetham Tower where a live stage show will take place with the Champions."

On the other game, Liverpool had also fallen down to an early Pedro Neto goal at Wolves. Sadio Mané, Mo Salah, and Andy Robertson scored to give Liverpool a 3-1 victory at Anfield.

However, the victory for the Reds was insufficient, as they missed out on the title by one point ending their hopes for a quadruple season. 

They now set their eyes on the Champions League final against Spanish champions Real Madrid in Paris next weekend.
