Despite the team struggles, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner has been United's most important player, scoring 24 goals in all competitions, including hat-tricks against Tottenham and Norwich.

And, with United out of contention for a Champions League spot next season and uncertain of a Europa League spot, rumors are circulating that Ronaldo may leave this summer, despite having a year left on his deal and the option of a third.

Ferguson and Ronaldo have been discussing how United's season has deteriorated since the striker arrived from Juventus last summer.
