Kevin De Bruyne Reacts To Winning ‘Player of the Season’ Award Ahead Of Mo Salah And Heung-Min Son.

Manchester City's playmaker Kevin De Bruyne reacts to winning 2021/22 ‘Player of the Season’ award.

The Belgium midfielder De Bruyne has scored 15 goals and registered seven assists in 29 appearances despite having injury issues at the start of the season.

He has played a very key role for Pep Guardiola's team who are currently top of the league table with just one point before the final round of matches set to be played on Sunday.

De Bruyne was chosen after the votes from the public on the Premier League website were combined with those of the 20 Premier League club captains and a panel of football experts.

He emerged winner ahead of his fellow City team-mate Joao Cancelo, Liverpool pair of Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, West Ham's Jarrod Bowen, Arsenal's Bukayo Saka, Tottenham forward Son Heung-min and Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse.

This would be the second time the 30-year-old would claim the honour, after previously winning it in 2019/20 season, as he joins elite group of players like Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo and Nemanja Vidic in winning it more than once.

Speaking after winning the award, De Bruyne told Man City’s official website:

“To win this award for a second time is an achievement that I am really proud of.

“There is so much quality in the Premier League and it is a pleasure to be nominated with so many other great players who have had incredible seasons for their clubs.

“Thank you to all of the staff, coaches and especially my teammates because without them, this wouldn’t be possible.”

City could be crowned eventual Premier League champions for the sixth time if they win against Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa team at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, while rivals Liverpool plays Wolves at Anfield.
