Manchester United Target, De Jong Drops Huge Hints On Future

De Jong has done a mediocre job overall, holding his own in the Barcelona midfield but lacking some of the sparkle he possessed during his time at Ajax.

As a result, it appears that a cash-strapped Barcelona would be willing to transfer de Jong for the right price this summer as they attempt to bolster their team.

United is thought to be intrigued, and the newest rumors claim they are waiting for a response from the midfielder, who has a new Dutch manager in Erik ten Hag.

"I'm extremely glad to remain at Barcelona," the midfielder declared in February, when speculation about his future surfaced.

It's been a dream come true for me to be here since I was a child.

"Of course, I'd want to have won more prizes in my first two years than I have."

"To put it another way, I expected more in that regard." Apart from that, I'm extremely happy here and hope to stay for a long time."

"It has been a disappointing season for us," de Jong stated in an Instagram post following the end of the La Liga season last week. We were unable to meet the objectives we set for ourselves at the outset.

"However, I'd like to express my gratitude to the fans for their support this year." We'll work hard next season to improve."

Those remarks strongly suggest de Jong intends to stay put, but it's important remembering that if the club wants him out, he may be persuaded otherwise.

Barca hasn't made that plain yet, but they don't appear to be endorsing the Dutchman either.
