Tottenham Confirms The Signing Of Ivan Perisic From Inter Milan On A Free Transfer.

Tottenham Hotspur has officially announced the signing of Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan on a free transfer.

Spurs confirmed the transfer on Friday, few minutes after he put a statement out paying tribute to his 'unforgettable' time in Serie A.

The 33-year-old who can play as a wing-back and a forward, signed a two-year contract, reuniting him with manager Antonio Conte.

He becomes the club's first signing of the summer transfer window, as Conte wanted Ivan as priority signing, having won the Serie A title at Inter under his guidance, as well as the Coppa Italia and the Italian Super Cup.

Following the expiration of Perisic contract at Inter, he agreed a deal with Spurs that will run until 2024, and will join the Club on 1 July ahead of the first day of the club's pre-season training despite sustaining a calf injury in his last appearance for Inter.

Perisic reportedly rejected an offer of £4.25m a year after tax from the Italian gaints to take up a deal with Spurs worth around £170,000 a week.

He began his career in the youth academies of Hajduk Split and Sochaux before a short loan spell at KSV Roeselare in Belgium.

In 2009, he joined Club Brugge where, and in only his second season, he was the league’s top scorer and was named Belgium’s Footballer of the Year.

A move to Germany followed in 2011 with Ivan winning the Bundesliga and German Cup (DFB-Pokal) in his first season at Borussia Dortmund, before adding a second DFB-Pokal and the DFL-Supercup following a move to VfL Wolfsburg in 2013.

He further signed for Inter in 2015, starting games and scoring regularly for the Italian club until he returned to Germany spending a season-long loan at Bayern Munich in 2019/20, where he won the Champions League as well as lifting a second Bundesliga and third DFB-Pokal title of his career as part of Bayern's treble-winning side.

This season Perisic continued his fine form with Inter, registering 10 goals and nine assists in all competitions, with Inter finishing as runners-up in the final domestic standings.

Speaking after the completion of the transfer, Perisi believes he can offer plenty across the pitch for Tottenham heading into 2022-23 season ;

"It's a privilege to work with a coach like this... He said.

"He's living football, every minute, ever hour, every day. When he's sleeping, he's thinking about football.

"I like his character and I know he's going to do a great job here... He added.

"I'm going to bring a lot of hard work, I like to work a lot, for the team. I can play several positions in the system Tottenham is playing now. I'll bring also a lot of experience, I used to play for a lot of great clubs."

Spurs made a slow start to the just concluded season under manager Nuno Espirito Santo, but improved after Antonio Conte’s arrival in November, as they finished in the top four, meaning they would play in the Champions League next season.

The vastly experienced Croatia international, has has 113 caps for his country to date, scoring 32 goals. He also scored in the 2018 World Cup final.
