CAF Hails The Super Eagles For Their Historic Win Against Sao Tome

Nigeria's historic victory over Sao Tome and Principe has been hailed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).



On Monday, the Super Eagles beat the Falcons 10-0 in their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matchday two match.
Nigeria's victory was the country's biggest in international football.

Victor Osimhen scored his first-ever international super hat-trick with the Super Eagles, and added another goal later on to make it four goals from him.  

He has now been involved in 23 goals in 22 Appearances for the Super Eagles. (15 goals, 8 assists), and becomes is the third player ever to score 4+ goals in a Super Eagles match after, Onyeali vs. Dahomey, Yekini vs. Burkina Faso, and now Osimhen vs. Sao Tome & Principe.



The 23-year-old is now the top scorer in the qualifiers with five goals.

Nigeria's other goals on the day, came from Terem Moffi who scored twice, Moses Simon, Oghenekaro Etebo, Ademola Lookman, and Emmanuel Dennis.


"The opening two match days of the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers concluded on Monday, with Nigeria’s 10-0 victory over Sao Tome and Principe being among the hottest topics as the road to Côte d’Ivoire set up in high gear,” CAF wrote on its website.

"The Nigerian Super Eagles smashed a record for the largest win in qualification matches, an achievement that dates back to 1959 when they defeated the Dahomey squad, which is now known as Bénin, 10-1."
