Eddie Nketiah Agrees To A New Arsenal Contract And To Confirm New Squad Number Switch.

 After rejecting various offers, Eddie Nketiah has reportedly agreed to a new long-term contract with Arsenal.

The 23-year-old's Gunners contract was about to expire at the end of the month, but he is claimed to have signed a contract that would keep him at the club until the summer of 2027, putting him in Mikel Arteta's long-term plans.

The North London club reportedly handed Nketiah a deal worth up to £100k-a-week, including a £5m signing-on bonus spread over the course of the deal.

Nketiah rejected down many offers from Bundesliga and Premier League clubs, including West Ham and Crystal Palace to remain at the Emirates Stadium, official announcement expected in the coming days.

Nketiah has agreed to stay in north London, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who announced the news via his social media handles.

After rejecting a series of contract extensions, Nketiah was expected to leave the Gunners this summer, citing his desire to play frequently as a major factor in his choice.

Last season, he was mostly out of contention for a starting spot in the Premier League.

Alexandre Lacazette's fortunes changed in April when he was diagnosed with coronavirus.

He didn't score in Arsenal's 1-0 loss to Southampton, but he kept his spot in the team, and Arteta's faith paid off as he scored a brace to help them beat Chelsea 4-2 at Stamford Bridge.

Nketiah then scored three more goals in his following six outings to cement his position as the first-choice striker for the remainder of the season, ahead of Lacazette.

He becomes the latest product of Arsenal’s Hale End academy to sign a new long-term extension, following on from Bukayo Saka in 2020 and Emile Smith Rowe in 2021.

It is understood that as well as signing a new deal, Nketiah has also taken on Arsenal's legendary No. 14 - the shirt worn by all-time legendary record goalscorer Thierry Henry.
