OFFICIAL: Taiwo Awoniyi Joins Nottingham Forest For A Club-Record Fee.

Nottingham Forest has confirmed the signing of forward from Union Berlin for club-record fee in region of £17.5m.

The Nigerian striker becomes the first international signing of the summer for newly promoted Premier League side Nottingham Forest after joining from Bundesliga club Union Berlin on a five-year deal.

Awoniyi scored 20 goals in 43 games across all competitions last season.

His 15 goals in 31 Bundesliga matches also helped Union Berlin secure a fifth-place finish and qualification for the Europa League for the first time since 2001/2002.

"I'm very excited to be here at Nottingham Forest," Awoniyi said following his move to The City Ground.

"It's always been my dream to play in the Premier League and having spoken to Steve Cooper about our ambitions and looking at Forest, with its great history, it's a club that I want to be part of."

Since making his senior debut for Nigeria in October, the striker has made four appearances and scored his first goal for his nation against Sudan in January at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Forest are expected to sign goalkeeper Dean Henderson, 25, on loan from Manchester United this summer and are also in talks to sign central defender Moussa Niakhate, 26, from Mainz.
