Sadiq Umar Reveals What Super Eagles Players Did After Missing The 2022 World Cup.

Sadiq Umar, has revealed exactly what the Super Eagles players told themselves after missing out on the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

 

After playing out a 1-1 draw against West African rivals Ghana in March, the result was not enough to take the Super Eagles of Nigeria to the world's biggest sporting event, as the Black Stars advanced based on the away goal rule.

The Almeria's striker said in an interview with NFF TV that; "We're all getting ready for the game because after the World Cup qualifications, we looked at ourselves and told ourselves that we had to come back stronger and demonstrate it."

Sadiq also shared his thoughts on his first training session with the Super Eagles new coach Jose Peseiro in Abuja on Sunday.

"My first training with the team, we did everything with the ball," Sadiq explained. 

"As you can see, we're just trying to figure out what the new coach wants and we all hope we can give him what he wants."

Sadiq scored on his full debut for the Super Eagles in a 2-0 win over Guinea Bissau at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Garoua, Cameroon. He was a member of the Dream Team VI squad at the 2016 Olympic Games.

The Super Eagles play host to Sierra Leone on Thursday June 9th at the MKO Abiola Stadium for the 2023 AFCON qualifiers, before playing São Tomé four days later.

The 25-year-old former Rangers and AS Roma player, was very key to Almeria's promotion from the Spanish Segunda to the La Liga, having 30 goal contributions in 38 matches, and scoring 19 goals.

He believes the team is poised to rub shoulders with some of the top teams like Barcelona and Real Madrid in the La Liga when the season kicks off in August.
