Tottenham Complete Transfer Of Clement Lenglet From Barcelona
Tottenham Hotspur has announced that Clement Lenglet has transferred from Barcelona on a season-long loan.
At Barcelona, where Ronald Araujo, Gerard Pique, and Eric Garcia were placed above him in the pecking order, Lenglet, 27, was deemed surplus to needs.
This week's free agent signing by Barcelona of Andreas Christensen from Chelsea and speculations that manager Xavi wants to include Sevilla's highly regarded Jules Kounde placed additional pressure on the France center-spot back's in the team.
With head coach Antonio Conte eager to add at least one center-back to the defense, Tottenham has turned its attention to other options after failing to persuade Alessandro Bastoni to leave Inter Milan.
The 27-year-old joins Richarlison, Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic, and Yves Bissouma as Antonio Conte's fifth addition to the team this transfer window.
Since moving to Barcelona for €35.9 million in 2018 from Sevilla, Lenglet has made 160 appearances.
He made his France debut in 2019 and has since represented his nation 15 times.
