OFFICIAL: Man United Confirms The Signing Of Brazilian Winger Anthony From Ajax.

Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Antony from Ajax for €95m + €5m add-ons.

The transfer is subject to a medical, player terms being finalised, and international clearance.

He will become United's third most expensive signing after Paul Pogba (£93.3m) and Romelu Lukaku (£90m).

The Brazilian winger, has to be registered by midday on Wednesday to be available for United's Premier League game at Leicester City on Thursday. It is thought that is unlikely as his visa and work permit are yet to be sorted.

He could therefore make his Manchester United debut against Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday

Antony has 31 goals and 27 assists in 134 club appearances for Ajax and Sao Paulo, and two goals and two assists in nine senior appearances for his native Brazil.

He has won two Eredivisie titles, and a gold medal in the 2020 Summer Olympics.

His move to United will see Antony reunited with ex-Ajax boss Erik ten Hag, who has already recruited defender Lisandro Martinez from his former club.

Antony wore the number 11 in the Netherlands but it’s not thought he will be taking up that number again at Old Trafford because it's held by Mason Greenwood.

He also likes the number 39, the shirt he wore at his first club Sao Paulo and during his inaugural season at Ajax.

But one Scott McTominay current occupies that number.

There remains a distinct possibility that Antony could take up the number seven shirt - the number made famous by United legends such as George Best, Eric Cantona, David Beckham, and Cristiano Ronaldo, who currently wears the jersey for the side.

It’s been widely reported, that Ronaldo has been pushing for a move away from United after making a return last summer from Juventus. The superstar is reportedly in the hunt for Champions League football, and his agent, Jorge Mendes, is currently reaching out to certain clubs to see if he can strike a deal.

And of course, if Ronaldo does leave, that will leave the number seven vacant for Antony to take up - with the new United man having played in that number for Sao Paulo during the 2018/19 season.
