Nigeria Super Falconets Maintains 100 Percent Record At The On-Going 2022 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.

The Nigeria’s Falconets, remains unbeaten at the ongoing 2022 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica.

They came from a goal down to win their last group game 3-1 against Canada in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Coming into this tie, the Nigerian ladies had recorded a back-to-back 1-0 win against France and South Korea, while an helpless Canadian side were looking to win atleast one match in Costa Rica to justify their participation in the competition, having lost opening game to South Korea 2-0 and France 3-1.

With 3 wins in three, the Nigeria ladies scored 5 goals, conceded 1, plus 4 goal difference, and 2 clean sheets, they maintained a perfect 100% record to finish top of Group C with nine points, ahead of France with six points, South Korea with 3 and Canada with none.

The game which was played 3am (Nigerian time) on Thursday at the Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto, Alajuela, saw Canadian took an early lead in the 2nd minute through Lillyanna Novak after a poor backpass from Jumoke Alani to goalkeeper Omini Oyono.

Esther Nnadozie then equalized for Nigeria having converted a penalty in the 24th minute.

However, the FC Robo Queens player, went on to shoot Nigeria ahead, also from the penalty spot, in the 32nd minute.

The second half began with the Falconets adding pace and brilliant use of space to their game.

Substitute Chioma Olise eventually grabbed the third goal for Nigeria in added time after latching onto a delightful cross by the impressive left back Rofiat Imuran.

 “It was great for us to come back from that setback, and also conceding first in the tournament.

“But we showed character and spirit after that, and that would be huge for us going forward in the competition,” said the team head coach Christopher Danjuma after the match.

This is the first time in the competition that Falconets will take nine points from the available nine in the competition. 

The Falconets will now face the Netherlands in the  in Alajuela on Sunday.

Netherlands ladies trashed fellow West African side Ghana 4-1 this morning to finish second in Group D with six points, below the defending champions Japan who finished top of the group with nine points, and USA in third with three points.

Ghana bows out of the competition bottom of group D with 0 point, after losing all three of their games.
