Diego Costa Set To Return To The Premier League, As Wolves Near Move.

Premier League club, Wolverhampton Wanderers are expected to decide whether to sign Diego Costa within the next 48 hours.

Wolves announced late on Sunday night that new signing Sasa Kalajdzic who signed from Stuttgart in a £15.5m deal plus add-ons, had suffered an ACL injury in his debut against Southampton.

Kalajdzic injury, was a double blow for Wolves on Saturday, with manager Bruno Lage losing striker Raul Jimenez to injury in the warm-up, with the Mexican striker having on-and-off injury problems since the start of pre-season this summer.

These prompted reports that the club was "considering" a move for former Chelsea and Atletico Madrid striker Costa to address their issues up front.

The 33-year-old attacker was scheduled to arrive in the Midlands on Tuesday for a trial, where Wolves will evaluate his "fitness and suitability" before signing the free agent after his departure from Atletico Mineiro, according to The Athletic

If Costa passes his medical, it is more than likely he will be offered a contract.

Since leaving Chelsea in the summer of 2017, Costa spent three-and-a-half years at Atletico Madrid, scoring 19 goals in 81 matches in all competitions, before his contract was mutually terminated in December 2020.

The forward joined Atletico Mineiro in August 2021 and scored five times in 19 games, but saw his contract terminated in January of this year.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has since taken to his personal Twitter account to issue an update on Wolves' pursuit of Costa, where he said: "Diego Costa’s contract with Wolves would be valid until June 2023.

"He will be in England to undergo medical tests on Tuesday. Decision on free transfer to be made in 24/48h."

Costa won the Premier League twice with Chelsea.

In his three seasons with the Blues, between 2014 and 2017, the Brazilian-born striker scored 59 goals in 120 appearances.

Capped 24 times by Spain, was heavily linked with a move to Rayo Vallecano, but it now appears that he is due to travel to Wolverhampton.
