Spain Shock Portugal In Nation League Match To Go Top Of Group.

 Spain knew they needed to win in order to finish first in their Nations League group, and against all the odds, La Roja managed to escape Braga with a slim victory, as they finished top of League A Group 2.

The more perilous of the two teams that entered the game was Portugal. 

The Spanish team's play had a dreadful familiarity to it as they zipped the ball about midfield, but crucially not in the final third. In the meantime, their hosts searched for the opening during the break and did so frequently enough. 

Cristiano Ronaldo and Diogo Jota were both stopped by some outstanding saves from Unai Simon.

Similar events occurred in the second half, with Ronaldo's finest opportunity of the game up to that moment being denied by Simon once more. By the hour mark, Luis Enrique had started making adjustments, bringing on Sergio Busquets, Yeremy Pino, Pedri, and Gavi.

By the time the final 15 minutes arrived, Spain was putting more pressure on Portugal. However, despite several forays, there was little danger for the Portuguese. Until Luis Enrique points and cries "Victory!" in the 87th minute.

Nico Williams was ripping away at the far post when Dani Carvajal's superb pass found him; he pushed it back across the six-yard box for Alvaro Morata to slam home a dramatic late winner.

Despite casting doubt on the alleged lesser-powers, La Roja managed to defeat one of the more reputable European countries once more.

Spain have now beaten Portugal inside 90 minutes for the first time since the 2010 World Cup last-16 match in South Africa. 

Next summer's Nations League final four will include Spain, Italy, Croatia, and the Netherlands.
