Argentine Legend Gonzalo Higuain Set To Retire At The End Of Season.

 Gonzalo Higuain, an Argentine forward, will hang up his boots after Inter Miami's 2022 Major League Soccer season.

The 34-year-old signed on with Inter Miami in 2020, and in his final season, he wants to assist them make the MLS playoffs.

Throughout his career, Higuain has played for Real Madrid, Napoli, and Juventus in addition to spending time on loan at AC Milan and Chelsea.

"The day has arrived to say goodbye to football," said an emotional Higuain during a news conference.

"[It's} a profession that has given me so much and one I feel privileged to have lived with its good and bad moments.

"I want to thank each technical staff that coached me: Club Palermo, River Plate, Real Madrid, Argentina, Napoli, Milan, Chelsea and finally Inter Miami.

"I'll take beautiful moments with me in my head and in my heart.

"I had an unthinkable career and achieved more than I could imagine. It's a decision I made three or four months ago."

In 75 appearances, Higuain scored 31 goals for Argentina, helping them advance to the 2014 World Cup final and the 2015 Copa America final.

At the 2018 World Cup, his nation defeated Nigeria 2-1 in his final match.

In 707 appearances for the clubs he played for, he scored 333 goals and recorded 113 assists, with 121 of those coming in 264 games for Real Madrid.

He won three La Liga championships with Real Madrid and three Serie A championships with Juventus.

Higuain has scored 14 goals for Inter Miami this season. Inter Miami's final two MLS regular season games are against Orlando and Montreal.

"There were a lot of questions about him a few weeks back but we spoke about legacy and how he wants to be remembered," said Inter Miami manager Phil Neville.

"You can wave the white flag or show what you are all about.

"What he has shown since is that he has proven he's world class and a winner. The season is still going though and he has to keep on carrying and inspiring a group of young players.

"He has stood up and his influence off the field cannot be underestimated."
