Former Man United Legend "Michael Carrick" Lands First Permanent Managerial Job With Middlesbrough.

Michael Carrick has been appointed as the new manager of Middlesbrough.

It is the first permanent job in the 41-year-old managerial career.

Before now, Carrick had worked as an assistant coach at Old Trafford under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Jose Mourinho after retiring as a player in 2018.

The former Manchester United midfielder, replaces Chris Wilder, who was sacked on October 3 following five defeats in the first 11 league games of the season; Middlesbrough are just a point above the relegation zone in the Sky Bet Championship

I’m really excited to be here and to be part of a club with such a deep history and tradition... Said Carrick

Middlesbrough was the first professional club I played for as a nine-year old boy, so it’s a very special feeling to be back here as a head coach.

He added: “I’ll give everything to help develop the team and keep moving the club forward and make you the supporters proud.”

Carrick will be joined by Jonathan Woodgate as first-team coach, with a further backroom appointment expected in the near future.

Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson believes Carrick is the "perfect fit" for the club.

"We had identified a number of potentials for the vacancy who we spoke with, and were impressed by all, but Michael was the outstanding candidate," he said.

"Michael has the same values as the club, and we are very much aligned in our ambitions."

During his playing career at United, Carrick won five Premier League titles, the Champions League, the Europa League, two League Cups and an FA Cup.

Carrick's first game in charge will be a trip to Preston next Saturday in the Championship.
