Liverpool Becomes The First Team To Defeat Man City In The Premier League This Season.

 Liverpool defeated rivals Manchester City 1-0 at Anfield in a super Sunday's frantic and incident-packed match, that saw manager Jurgen Klopp receive a red card, thanks to a miraculous moment of individual brilliance from Mohamed Salah.

For the past five season's, City has engaged in some epic title races with their rivals, but Klopp’s side had been timid, lethargic and vulnerable on numerous occasions this season leading to the German accepting they are not currently in the title race.

Pep Guardiola's team on the other hand looked to continue their winning streak in the Premier League, having failed to score for the first time this season in their midweek clash against Copenhagen in the Champions League last Tuesday.

Liverpool came into the game 13 points behind City following their worst start to a season in 10 years but they defended resolutely, becoming only the second Premier League side all season to prevent Haaland from scoring a goal.

Mo Salah who was fresh from scoring the fastest ever ChampionsbLeague Hattrick in six-minute against Rangers, produced a brilliant piece of control. The Egyptian was on the move and exposed Joao Cancelo one-on-one 15 yards inside the opposition's half just as soon as Kevin De Bruyne's free-kick was in Alisson Becker's hands in the 76th minute, as Salah inflicted the decisive damage with a lightning-quick goal that caught City off guard.

Salah controlled Alisson's long kick and spin away from Cancelo before beating Ederson with a cool finish to end a five-game Premier League scoreless streak. 

 As usual, City had their numerous chances, but Alisson became just the third goalkeeper to stop the Norwegian striker, and the second to do so.

In the Reds' FA Community Shield victory, Mark Travers of Bournemouth and Adrian, the Reds' third-choice, both accomplished this.

City manager Pep Guardiola further accused Liverpool fans of throwing objects at him during gamea Anfield, although he said none of the objects struck him but the Spaniard furious about the decision to disallow Phil Foden's goal.

The incident came earlier in the game when, Anthony Taylor was called to the VAR monitor after Foden's goal went in, but Erling Haaland was judged to have fouled Fabinho in the build-up, which left Guardiola very furious.

"This is Anfield" - Guardiola fumes at referee for disallowed goal.

"The crowd tried to throw coins/objects, but they didn't touch me. Maybe next time they will be better,” Guardiola said to BBC Sport.

"We played a really good game, but this is a game where there are really fine margins, and mistakes are punished. We made a mistake and we cannot concede and that's why we lost the game.

"We played to beat Liverpool today, definitely we played for that. After 1-0 the crowd shouted but we shouted more on the pitch.

"The referee said 'play on, play on, play on', there were a thousand million fouls like this and this one is because we scored a goal.

“So they disallowed because we scored a goal, otherwise it would not have been disallowed. We lost because we make a mistake, but this is Anfield.”

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp on the other hand, was sent off late on in the closing stages by Anthony Taylor for reacting furiously at the lines man after the hosts were denied a free-kick for an apparent foul by Bernardo Silva on Salah.

The victory for Liverpool, still put them 10 points behind City in second place, and 14 adrift of Premier League leaders Arsenal, but kept their title aspirations alive with just a third league win of the season. 

While City's defeat brings an end to their unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign and leaves them four points behind early leaders Arsenal, who beat Leeds 1-0 earlier on Sunday. 

City next face Brighton next on Saturday at the Etihad.
