Nigeria's Flamingos WINS First-Ever Bronze Medal Against Germany At The FIFAU-17WWC.

The Nigeria's Flamingos wins the bronze medal against Germany at the ongoing FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup in India.

They become the only second African side to achieve this feat. The first team was Ghana in 2012.

Both Nigeria and Germany came agonizingly close to securing a spot in the final but were stopped by Colombia and Spain respectively.

While the Flamingos lost out via penalty kicks to the South Americans, it was a late goal in the second half that thwarted the ambition of the German girls.

The third-place match which went down at the D Y Patil Sports Stadium in Navi Mumbai ended 3-3 after regulation time as Germany came from three goals down to tie the game 3-3.

Opeyemi Ajakaye opened scoring in the 20th minute to hand the Flamingos the lead, Aminat Bello extended the lead by netting the second goal in the 48th minute before Etim got the third goal in the 63rd minute. 

Germany ladies pulled one back in the 73rd minute through Jella Veit with Paulina adding the second in the 84th minute before Loreen Bender levelled the scoreline at the death (90 mins) to take the game into penalties. 

The Flamingos went on to win 3-2 via penalties against Germany U17. 

Victory for Nigeria, becomes the best-ever finish at the competition for the country after three quarter-final finishes in the 2010, 2012, and 2014 competitions.

Meanwhile, Spain and Colombia will be battling to be crowned champions later on Sunday.
